*There’s usually a confusion about the existence of season 3 since MyAnimeList and some sites only show there’s 52 episodes (which proves just how small this fandom is). Monsuno is 3 seasons long, with a total of 65 episodes. This would indicate some of the script may have been changed during production and not carried over to the English version. Sometimes the animation in the English version doesn’t quite match up with the characters reactions and what not. It’s worth noting that it does appear at times the Japanese script seems to work with the footage better at times, even though the English script had been written first. Name changes also occur with the names of the Monsuno as well. For example, Chase and Bren retain their original names, but Jinja is renamed to Vicky, Beyal to Noah, and Dax to Ash. The other changes made to the Japanese version is that some of the personalities have been modified slightly, as well as name changes to several of the characters in the show. Japan went even as far as to retain the “3 Commercial Break” format that Monsuno had used. However, in exchange to these cuts, the episodes gain Episode Title Cards, Eyecatchers, and Next Episode previews. Instead, the Japanese version just shows Chase becoming engulfed in the explosion and immediately waking up. The Japanese version cuts the entire sequence of the world exploding and Chase witnessing the destruction of Earth. One example is the opening scene of Episode 1, during Chase’s dream. Usually a direct 15 second cut on one scene or making random cuts throughout the Episode. The actual episodes remain largely identical to the English version, but a removal of 15 seconds of content has been made to each episode. Although the Opening and Ending largely consist of episode clips, there is couple instances of original animation in the Opening sequence. However, the Opening and Ending have been changed, replaced by “MONSUNO!” by Rey, and “Jounetsu ELEMENT” by SV Tribe. The Japanese version retains all these things. This even includes the production of the Music, Sound Effects, and such. In an unusual case, Monsuno was originally recorded and produced in English, unlike most Japanese productions. What’s the difference about the Japanese version? If you’d like to check out the few stuff that got subbed, here’s the youtube page of the Monsuno Fansub Project. The English dub is very funny and enjoyable though, so it’s really worth a watch! This is why we fans are so desperate to get more people to join the fandom, we’re hoping once it gets enough attention another fansub group will pick it up eventually. Unfortunately there’s no subtitles available at the moment, Monsuno Project used to be in charge of the subs but due to lack of help the project has since been dropped.
